  • Lisa Picarille (@lisap), a consultant focusing on online marketing, social media and content creation

The topics that were discussed today were:

  • Bloggers are adding more affiliate marketing to their blog monetization. Why now and what are the opportunities for big-time bloggers and the little guy?
  • The opportunities for bloggers and advertisers with SocialSpark and PayPerPost
  • Why Affiliate Managers should be concentrating on recruiting bloggers and how to go about doing so the right way.
  • The financial effect that affiliate marketing has had on affiliates’ lives and the gamble getting into the industry. (We were too long-winded on the other topics that we decided to table this for another time).
  • Lisa Picarille debriefs us on Lobby Day in Sacramento

Show Notes:

  • Missy checks her ego and the door and makes a new rule that the weekly special guest shall always pick the opening music.
  • How advertisers are measuring social media campaign successes
  • Why more bloggers are monetizing their blogs now via affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, etc. and why is Marshall Kirkpatrick still shaking his head at it?
  • How Advertisers, Affiliate Managers and OPM’s should approach bloggers — and how NOT to.
  • How a random product can create buzz via social media (ex: Xshot)
  • Calling all Minnesota Affiliate Marketers: Connie Berg needs your help to fight #advertisingtax in your home state

Great now I'm gona have Journey stuck in my head. But yes having crazy bitch playing in the office not so great I don't mind it but this time I'm listening with headphones on ;) . That is true contacting through DM is effective. In recent news, Ted Murphy is Jewish. Good podcast, I'm gona try to make it to Izeafest.

(Lobby Day Recap) Don't bring back the Lil Steph, was the Connie or LisaP? Grr. Yes we do have a conference call with a reporter from the Miami Herald and Melanie Seery has agreed to be on it.
Connie check the facebook group: Fight Against the #AdvertisingTax, to connect with others in your state. This just in Connie Berg is the new Karen Garcia. "Get one state to say no." That is a great place to start. The rest of the states will follow your example. Yes Angel always says the best things! Thank you Missy for another great podcast. Connie I am going to make a special blogpost for you. :)

Great podcast Missy, and interview with Ted Murphy – he has the most infectious laugh!.. interesting discussion on how bloggers are becoming more accepting of performance marketing – because of companies like Izea with socialspark: framework to support the blogger, setting the line on disclosure, and giving advertisers the tools/metrics to track performance.

I think its also the progression in technology/maturing of the affiliate offering which is making bloggers more open to affiliate, as it gets easier to refer to relevant products and services (e.g. wordpress plugins, widgets, aggregation services). The decline in CPM rates/increase in ad blindness also means they are looking for other methods of monetization… especially in the case of blog networks.

Ted's poor mother – give the woman a decent, closed mouth picture, would you!

As far as MN, how about the folks at oneNetworkDirect?

I'm glad that all the senator's Lisa's group spoke with said they didn't plan to support it, because all the staff we spoke with of senator's said they just didn't know and gave us very political wishy washy answers :/

SocialSpark and PayPerPost provide great ways for bloggers to earn money and a opportunity for advertisers to get noticed!
