James Martell, president of Net Guides Publishing Inc., interviews with Lisa Riolo a co-founder of Impact Radius who really points out how understanding the business from the advertiser’s point of view is essential if you want to make the most of your affiliate experience.

Not only can understanding how your advertiser sees the industry help you negotiate for better commissions on each sale, it can help you learn what type of value you need to showcase in order to get into the good programs and receive the type of one-on-one assistance from your affiliate manager that’ll put you on top.

Lisa Riolo really understands the affiliate industry from the “back” side.
Minimizing the role of the agency middleman (or in this case, woman) her company allows affiliates to push back against advertisers to get better commissions and better support but also allows advertisers to go out and find the top-tier affiliates that will get them the best results.

Inside you’ll learn:

The 5 main types of affiliate models (and how advertisers view each)

Why advertisers and affiliates are better off working with third party tracking and payment companies (even if they don’t want to)

What sort of capital and time investment goes into getting an advertiser’s affiliate program off the ground (it’s eye-opening to most affiliates and even top-level company management!)

Why even a beginner affiliate has the right to be respected by an advertiser (here’s a hint: they could be a diamond in the rough)

How the industry is changing in response to participant feedback and popular demand

There’s tons more inside–James has really hit the jackpot here with Lisa. She’s an excellent resource for beginners and experts alike (you’ll get her personal email inside as well.)
James Martell, President of Net Guides Publishing Inc., has been a successful affiliate and affiliate trainer since “The Caveman Days” of internet marketing. He’s seen it grow and change and knows that some of the things that held true back then are just as important today. He discusses this with Lisa Riolo in this edition of Coffee Talk. She’s was one of the women who literally help mold the affiliate marketing industry into what it is today.

Now one of the founders of Impact Radius, a hybrid next-generation affiliate network for on and offline performance based marketing, she was Commission Junction’s Vice President of Business Development from 2001 to 2006. Drawing on her experience, she explains how “everything old is new again.” Now more than ever creating a successful affiliate business (for both affiliate publishers and advertisers) is about driving qualified customers via the creation of great, meaningful content not just mindless traffic.

From this starting point, Lisa explains to James:

How you can learn to negotiate better commission rates with your advertisers

How to get accepted into “hot” or profitable affiliate programs (Hint: don’t let rejection get you down!)

How to overcome the Chicken vs. Egg phenomenon when you’re trying to lure a potential advertiser to your new website or even website idea

How to showcase the value you bring to any advertiser—even if your even if your sales figures are smaller than the big boys

How—if you’re an advertiser—you can build a profitable commission based sales force without sacrificing your brand’s “image”—and how to avoid the pitfalls

Why every business should consider performance-based marketing—even ones that don’t fit the traditional “model”

She also chats with James and tells him how his tactics—even when he was just beginning in the business—caused her to sit up and take notice of his efforts before she’d ever met him.

This is really an exciting look at affiliate marketing from its early years right on through the fast-paced and extremely lucrative times we’re living in today from two industry experts. Lisa is truly one of affiliate marketing’s most knowledgeable resources and James is thrilled to bring her to you. All you have to do is listen in.

	* Why every business should consider performance-based marketing—even ones that don’t fit the traditional “model”

All you have to do is listen in.</itunes:summary>

Affiliate Marketing Fanatics – A couple of hyper-caffeinated affiliate marketers (Mike Buechele) and (Trisha Lyn Fawver) talk about all things Affiliate Marketing. From blogging to branding, social media to search, video and more!

In this all-too-RARE episode, we reunite and make lots of fun of ourselves for being inconsistent in our scheduling and shows. We discuss some things that are kind of old and some things that are brand-spanking new. It happens. Incidentally, I realize I said the name Richard Attenborough when we were joking around and I was trying to reference those classic nature shows from our childhood with the stoic British actor describing gazelles running across the Serengeti. Not sure what the actor’s name actually was, but I know now that it wasn’t Sir Attenborough. Oh well, despite that, episode 19 comes in at a cheetah like speed of 39 minutes.

Also, I just fixed the audio problem where it cut off about 33 minutes in. Sorry, should be all good now! In this episode we discuss:

For this episode Lisa Picarille (@lisap) moderated and was joined by:

Karen Garcia (@karengarcia), co-founder of GTO Management and Ultimate Foodie

Karen White (@KarenWhite_LV), founder and CEO of Squirtgun Media

And Lisa Riolo (@LisaRiolo), co founder of Impact Radius

We (meaning me, Lisa Picarille) had some Skype issues on this one. I thought my dear friend Pamela was recording the entire show, but I guess Pamela didn’t kick in until all four of the ladies were on the call. That means about 8 minutes at the beginning of the show are missing. I think we spent most of that time chatting about marketing and holidays.

The podcast starts in the middle of Lisa Riolo talking about ways for affiliates and merchants to differentiate themselves by offering gift wrapping as a service. She was disappointed to have order so many gifts to be shipped to far- flung family and friends that many of them couldn’t be gift wrapped. She felt like she was imposing on her brother to wrap the gifts intended for his kids from their Auntie Lisa in California.

Anyway, after that we got into the validity of awards and industry honors. Of course, we offered a huge round of applause and congrats to Karen Garcia, who had recently won a ShareASale Performance Award – the Pay It Forward award. She was also nominated for an Affiliate Summit Pinnacle Award for Most Vocal Industry Advocate – quite a week for the very-deserving Mrs. Garcia.

Welcome to episode 18 of The Spew, a podcast about women in online marketing, by women in online marketing.

Karen Garcia (@karengarcia), co-founder of GTO Management and Ultimate Foodie, was the moderator for this week’s show.

Panelists this week include:

Karen White (@KarenWhite_LV), a Marketing Strategist focusing on Performance marketing initiatives.

Lisa Picarille (@lisap), an online content strategist.

And Lisa Riolo (@LisaRiolo), Internet Marketing Consultant.

This week, we discussed things to have with you on the road and how to be productive while mobile and traveling.

Lisa Picarille is as prepared as they come and had a comprehensive list of items she brings with her on trips and how for her it’s all about the bag, even though the perfect bag is elusive.

Lisa Riolo told us all about her new gadget Mi-Fi that allows her to create her own hot-spot from anywhere and how convenient she finds it to be, even at home.

Karen White mentioned that she’s kind of anti-mobile in exchange for a better Quality of Life and her observation that the more gadgets someone has, the harder it seems to be to reach them.

We also discussed netbooks and their convenience for business travel and how Karen Garcia uses them for personal writing while she’s undisturbed and unreachable on long flights.

We also ran through a rather lengthy list of applications that we find to help with day to day and on the road productivity including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Voice, 37Signals Basecamp, Drop.io, ZoHo, Hootsuite, Skype and GoToMeeting as well as password management tips and tricks.

Finally, we closed out this week’s podcast with a discussion of comfort items we bring on the road with us.

Lisa Riolo told us all about her new gadget Mi-Fi that allows her to create her own hot-spot from anywhere and how convenient she finds it to be, even at home.

Karen White mentioned that she's kind of anti-mobile in exchange for a better Quality of Life and her observation that the more gadgets someone has, the harder it seems to be to reach them.

We also discussed netbooks and their convenience for business travel and how Karen Garcia uses them for personal writing while she's undisturbed and unreachable on long flights.

We also ran through a rather lengthy list of applications that we find to help with day to day and on the road productivity including Gmail (http://www.gmail.com), Google Docs (http://docs.google.com), Google Calendar (http://calendar.google.com), Google Voice (http://voice.google.com), 37Signals Basecamp (http://basecamphq.com/), Drop.io (http://drop.io/), ZoHo (http://www.zoho.com), Hootsuite (http://www.hootsuite.com), Skype (http://www.skype.com) and GoToMeeting (http://www.gotomeeting.com) as well as password management tips and tricks.

Finally, we closed out this week's podcast with a discussion of comfort items we bring on the road with us.</itunes:summary>

Additionally, there is a reference to Aunt Bee, a fictional character from the 1960's sitcom, the Andy Griffith Show. After further investigation, it turns out she was as old as she looked. However, Lucille Ball was only 40 years old when I Love Lucy first aired and she sure looked a lot older than that. Just sayin'.
