The third installment of RedHatBlueHat featured Tim Jones, Shawn Collins, Mike Allen and Sam Harrelson (Todd Crawford was off spending more time with his family but will be back in the podcast administration next week).
This week, most of the discussion is about the historical events of this past Tuesday when Obama wrapped up the Democratic nomination and we had important speeches by Hillary Clinton, Obama and Sen John McCain.
The conversation addressed Obama’s potential Clinton problem and how he should deal with her (and her followers) and what the Democratic party needs to do now to build back some unity and party loyalty.
Then we dissected McCain’s policy-centric address (probably the best of his campaign so far) and how it stacked up to Obama’s revival-style address in Minnesota.
Of course there is some speculation over Vice Presidential candidates for both Republican and Democratic parties and why some Republicans were disillusioned with their choices in the primaries.
We then looked back to some presidential history to find analogues for the type of election we’re seeing in ’08 and looked at the Reagan/Ford primaries in ’79 and ’80 as well as how history could have been different had things gone another way during the first Gulf War in ’91.
Lastly, we discussed some finer points of both Obama’s and McCain’s policies and flip-floppage throughout their careers and who is better suited to lead the country forward in these troubling times.
Episode 3 runs 75 urine-free minutes.
