PMA Industry Report: Be Yourself

by Lisa Picarille on February 17, 2011

Welcome to the Performance Marketing Association Industry Report, a podcast dedicated to the most pressing issues impacting advertisers, publishers, networks and agencies.

We are continuing with our series of publisher profiles where we talk with people in the affiliate marketing space about lessons they’ve learned on their way to becoming successful.

Greg Hoffman (@akagorilla) joined host Lisa Picarille.

Greg is The Gorilla/Affiliate Manager/President of Greg Hoffman Consulting, an outsourced program management firm with multiple clients in ShareASale and Commission Junction. He is creator and co-host of the Affiliate Juice Podcast, which analyzes new program launches and guides merchants on how to build a better program for affiliates. Greg is also the author of the Marketing Gorilla blog, started in 2005. His first major affiliate management position, also in 2005, was for the Thompson Cigar family of companies including LinenSource, Casual Living and Cafe Belmondo. He also served as Affiliate Director for the Kowabunga/Primary Ads network. Greg started his professional career as a reporter for newspapers including the Tampa Tribune and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

We began the show talking about the start of Greg’s career as a journalist and then moved onto his foray into affiliate marketing. We also talked about starting his own business; why he opted for affiliate management versus being an affiliate; his daily routine; hiring new employees; the importance of having a plan; relationships in the affiliate space and much more.
