This week on the Affiliate Thing podcast, Lisa Picarille and guest co-host Vinny O’Hare (AKA MY Little Vinny) stuck mostly to affiliate marketing topics. Ok. We got into some Jets talk and the story of why Vinny from Brooklyn (who is really from Queens) loves the Atlanta Falcons.

We also talked about Google+ Brand Pages, Google+ Trending Items, the Affiliate Summit Pinnacle Awards, as well as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Regular co-host Shawn Collins was off for a little R&R on a Mexican cruise with the family. But we predict he’s paying big bucks to have Internet on board access so he can listen to this podcast, and Tweet and post on Facebook.

Of course I downloaded this episode over the cruise WiFi, so I could hear you two.

It is funny that Vinny disparages the mighty Jets in favor of those ridiculous Falcons. The only thing they have going for them in Atlanta is the former superstar WR, Shawn Collins.

Some BBQ trivia for you – there is a Ruby’s BBQ in Austin, too – http://rubysbbq.com/

It’s tasty, but Rudy’s is superior.

    Happy Black Friday!

Shawn it amazes me how you can have such good taste when it comes to BBQ but lousy taste when it comes to Pro football.

    Hello Lisa & Vinny,

What a great discussion certainly have found the image issue an as often some of your content heavy websites get a bunch of image traffic that never converts and then ecommerce websites struggle to get as much image traffic.

It’s usually WordPress/Flickr websites show up because they make it so easy to add the descriptive details to your images when you upload then. A whole bunch of ecommerce platforms make it a very manual and painful process that they just never bother adding any SEO friendly descriptors and often have nothing. Part of the issue with blogs/websites correctly naming the image is that often it’s a general image used for a post and there was no context supplied on the original website where the image might have been sourced.

I do agree that some more context around the image could help visitors but often images were added to spice up the article not chase extra traffic and there is not yet an easy monetisation model for non-commerce websites doing that extra step.

There are a number of solutions where websites can monetise that image traffic if they were interested…

It’s also a big market for affiliates/advertisers to reach out to some of these websites that are occupying the top results to add in one of these platforms so you can then target that image traffic via some of the ad platforms mentioned above. Also surely Google AdWords will roll out it’s image ad overlay platform soon enough based on the growth of image sharing within Google+ and the volume of image search traffic online.

    Happy Christmas Shopping Season!!!
