GeekCast 44: Jim Kukral, ShamWow and PubCon

by Shawn Collins on November 14, 2008

Episode 44 of the GeekCast show was sans Jim Kukral and Lisa Picarille, so Sam Harrelson and Shawn Collins did the only logical thing – they rambled on for about two hours.

Plenty of things were covered, including blog themes for WordPress, getting e-mail on a Blackberry while flying, Jim Kukral rebranded, and Cisco Systems geeking up the new Yankee Stadium.

Also, some talk on Diggnation audio vs. video podcasts, Flickr as a venue for affiliate links, giddiness over the Amazon Stripe, and the fake Bluetooth infomercial thing.

Jim Kukral has a new gig as the ShamWow dude.

I tried Unique Blog Designs when they first started out, and I knew nothing about wordpress. I had a really bad experience in both customer service and guidance, and ended up scrapping the whole theme. I wouldn’t go back. I think I spent 800 bucks for what I now realize is an easily modified free theme.

I just had a call with them today and should have a new look by the end of the year.

I think this Listen Up is what you were searching for on AsSeenOnTV and I totally know the creepy ass commercials you're talking about.

Or, this one looks just like a bluetooth, so maybe it was this one?

It might be the Stealth one, but I thought it was a different name.

I've been watching daytime TV since we did the show in the hope I'd see it again.

No luck so far – just a ton of Billy Mays.

I've only seen commercials for the Listen Up one, and just found the Stealth one when I searched for the Listen Up. Maybe they only show that commercial on the East Coast?

I finally saw the commercial again – it's called Loud 'N Clear – http://www.getloudandclear.com/

Some reasons why we should all order now…

Never miss another word at lectures, movies, shows, or even church

Turn up the volume on what people around you are saying

Listen at the level you want without disturbing others

Hear a pin drop from across the room

Turns ordinary hearing into extraordinary hearing

Not only that, but it employs micro technology used by private investigators.
