This week marked the passing of longtime Senator from Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy. We don’t often get political on our show, but we couldn’t ignore historical significance of the event. Joe tells stories of being a local in Massachusetts and Hyannis Port. I have one story about being chased off some property on Martha’s Vineyard. Joe’s stories are better.

Next up, Winter’s first day of school! It was an exciting day, and Winter came through like a champ – although a few tears ended up flowing because she didn’t want to leave when it was over!

We talk about school vs. day care and extracurricular activities. Joe’s going to be in an interesting position when school starts, because day care is 9 to 5, but school doesn’t last that long.

Fundraising! We analyze school and activity fundraisers – neither of us like them very much, for a multitude of reasons.

Lastly, Poken! It’s the latest craze, at least, in the very narrow subset of geeks and marketers that I follow on Twitter. I’m getting a ninja Poken. [update: I ordered from Poken Girl, and received the Poken yesterday, along with a handwritten note thanking me for my purchase. What a class act!]

A fun show this week; hope you enjoy it!

That fundraising stuff drives me nuts – especially since I now have 4 kids in school (if you count pre-school as school).

I don’t recall ever selling stuff for my school as a kid – just for the local Boys & Girls Club when I was on a team.

I am sort of surprised there isn’t more of a focus on online fundraising in schools. I wrote about it ten years ago and would have thought it would be more prevalent now: http://blog.affiliatetip.com/archives/affiliate-marketing-as-a-school-fundraiser/

Back in 1997, there was a horrible story in NJ where an 11-year-old boy was kidnapped and killed by a customer/neighbor when selling candy bars in his neighborhood.

When my kids get junk to sell, I don’t let them go out.

On another note, you need the Poken, Joe!
