Author Richie Frieman joins BookGoodies host Deborah Carney to discuss writing, publishing and all things book related.

“Terple – Always Dream Bigger” is a winner of The 2012 Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Award for Best Poetry and Rhyme book, as well has been awarded the Literary Classics Seal of Approval. An avid philanthropist, Frieman uses Terple to give back to those in need by offering a portion of his profits from his book sales (for the life of it) to a different charity every month.

WAHMoms/WAHDads host Deborah Carney is joined by guest Denise Gavilan.

Denise Gavilan, mother of a girl, 4 and a boy, 7, is principal of Gavilan Marketing & PR, which was founded in 2008, right after her daughter was born. Her team acts as the marketing and PR staff for the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.), managing everything from annual conference marketing to books sales to promotion of their webinar series. She recently launched a new tagline and logo for A.S.P.E.N., is involved in their website redesign and subsequent re-launch, manages high-profile (CNN, Associated Press) media relations on key legislative issues and much more. She also oversees annual meeting marketing initiatives for the Emergency Department Practice Management Association (EDPMA) and media relations initiatives for HomeAid Northern Virginia, where she has successfully introduced the local media, securing 15 placements since January 2011.


Prior to starting her business, Denise was senior director, marketing for ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership. Throughout her four-year tenure, she managed strategic marketing campaigns for the Annual Meeting & Exposition, which realized attendance growth by 25-35 percent each year; the Springtime Expo; the Great Ideas Conference; and the Association Technology Conference. In addition, she developed and implemented more than 75 marketing campaigns per year for the organization’s educational division; helped introduce a new brand; launched new books and more.
